Have you ever said...

“My confidence in practice disappears in competition and I don’t know why.”

“I get frustrated when I make a bad pass and my confidence sinks.”

“I get nervous and anxious before big games."

"I feel pressure to be perfect.”

“I train hard in practice, but during competition I doubt myself and don’t perform as well.”

“Sometimes I play great in games while other times I play tight and anxious. How can I become more consistent?”

“I know it’s important, but I have no idea how to mentally prepare for games.”

Volleyball players with these thoughts may suffer from…

...fear of failure and worry about outcomes

...inability to take practice confidence into games

...fragile confidence after bad serves or mistakes

...poor emotional control or ability to cope with mistakes

...inability to play freely and relaxed in games

Athletes experience a downward spiral when they underperform or make mistakes followed by negative self talk, processing emotions ineffectively, and displaing frustration in their behaviors.
Rumination and self-doubt can extend the downward spiral.

Recognition of negative thinking is key.
In early stages, negative thinking often takes two forms:
      - Focusing on past events, usually a mistake, which creates feelings of frustration and anger
      - Focusing on future events, “what ifs” which tend to create nervousness and anxiety

Combating counterproductive thinking patterns is easier said than done.
Deliberate practice and discipline are required to become consistently successful.

Volleyball mental skills training can help you:
      - Overcome Pressure-Packed Expectations
      - Focus on The Process and Refocus When Distracted
      - Develop Proactive and Stable Confidence
      - Trust Your Skills From Practice to Games
      - Refocus and Move On After Making Mistakes
      - Overcome The Desire for Perfection
      - Mentally Prepare Before Each Play
      - Mentally Prepare For Competition with Routines
